IDVA 2011 for students

In only one month time the IDFA (16-27 November 2011) will open the doors of the Amsterdam cinema’s, in which hundreds of international documentaries can be viewed. IDFA doesn’t only present documentaries but also organises several educational programs throughout the year. This is why we would like to inform you about the upcoming IDFAcademy which will be running as part of this year’s IDFA again.

The IDFAcademy is an important educational experience for beginning filmmakers, producers and film-students. Above all it presents participants with a first-class opportunity to become acquainted with the documentary industry. This year the official program will run from Friday November 18 till Sunday November 20. On Thursday November 17 we will have a special kick off program called ‘Meet the Participants’, which will start at 2 pm. The IDFAcademy program that will start on Friday, will gather a broad range of industry professionals hosting discussions about their work and giving lectures on their field of expertise. There will also be case studies, workshops and more for film students and documentary filmmakers.

We would like to ask you, as a tutoring professional, to please forward this email to your film students, recent graduates of your programme or emerging documentary filmmakers so that we might interest them to take part in this informative and valuable event.

For more content information we would like to direct you to our website: http://www.idfa.nl/industry/training-education/idfacademy.aspx
Practical information: An IDFAcademy pass will cost €180 (excl. 6% VAT). This pass will give you access to all industry events and film screenings of the IDFA festival. Applications for this year’s IDFAcademy close on October 10. You can sign up by filling in the accreditation form. To apply you have to create a MyIDFA account.
Please note that whilst tutors may sign-up for a group, all participants will be required to complete an accreditation form individually.

If you have any questions or need clarification on any matter related to either IDFAcademy or this year’s IDFA festival, please do not hesitate to contact the IDFAcademy Staff.

Kind Regards,

Brainstorm avond Follow or Lead

medialab
Dinsdag 25 oktober 2011 19.30 – 22.00 uur

TETEM art spaces presents an lab-event on User Generated Art, inspired by the current exhibition about this concept. ‘User Generated Art’ can be characterized as an art movement in which the audience/visitor plays a determining role in how the artwork ultimately looks like. The artist creates a number of conditions for the visitor to work with, using the input to experiment and create a product that then can be used as input for the next step. The lab-event ‘Follow or Lead’ asks the question if the artworks initiate technological developments or the other way around. Bill Spinhoven van Oosten and Marc Boumeester will give their view on this development, and of course the public will get the opportunity to do the same. Join the discussion on 25 October from 7.30-10pm, entrance is free.

CALL FOR ARTISTIC RESIDENCE IN MOBILE MEDIA LAB

(BRAZIL AND THE NETHERLANDS)
Organised by Vivo ARTE.MOV & NIMk

Vivo ARTE.MOV and NIMk are excited to launch a collaborative residency to develop an art project or workshop programme for mobile lab and presentation platforms. The residence is for two people: a curator or artist living or residing in Brazil, and a curator or artist living in the Netherlands. The total residence period will be 2 months, divided between Amsterdam and São Paulo.

CONTEXT
In August 2011, NIMk started touring its Media Art Mobile (MKM) and would like to further develop its programme. Vivo ARTE.MOV is currently developing its mobile media art lab, and is searching for input for the development of a platform to extend the current actions of its programme. In addition to the technical infrastructure of the media art mobiles, the art project/workshop programme can also draw on the organisations’ rich video and media arts collections.

The collaboration aims to investigate a mobile platform in all its various contexts. Because of their nomadic character and appearance, mobile media labs/platforms can help to create temporary environments for curiosity and openness, and enable a crossing of diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds. Mediation plays a crucial role in the interaction between such an approach and its audience.

PURPOSE
We are looking for art projects or workshop programmes that involve local communities in innovative, meaningful and exciting ways. Moreover, the proposals should question how temporary interventions facilitated by media labs could generate meaning within a specific context for local groups, and/or a more ad hoc audience. In other words, what components do these interventions (workshop or art project) need to address the interests and needs of the audience, and how can their impact last beyond the very limited time period of the intervention itself?

The art project or workshop programme should be directed towards one or more target groups in the following contexts:
1. Popular culture and media arts festivals, (such as DEAF2012 in Rotterdam & Vivo ARTE.MOV Festival in São Paulo);
2. Higher education institutions, schools and vocational organisations (students between 15 and 17 years of age);
3. Health care institutions.
TIMELINE CALL
Deadline for submissions: 1 November 2011
Final decision: 1 December 2011
Duration / timing of residency: 2 months in the period February to April 2012
