CALL FOR PROJECTS STRP-2007

- Deadline 20 Oct. 2006
(please forward this message to anyone who might be interested)

After a successful first edition, the STRP festival, which took place in Eindhoven, Netherlands at the end of March 2006, is launching a call for projects for its next edition, which will be taking in May of 2007.

The focus of the festival is the common ground created at the intersection between art, popular culture and technology. The first edition which welcomed over 10 000 visitors, and received very positive attention from the press, made use of performances, installations, lectures, films, etcetera in order to convey this crossroads.

STRP takes place on Strijp-S, the 'holy' ground of the forbidden city of Philips, where in the 20th century numerous technological innovations were made which changed the world. A place where Einstein once worked, the first complete electronic music album was created and the collaboration between le Courboisier and Varese resulted in one of the most interesting amalgamations between art and technology; Le Poeme Electronique for the World Expo in Brussels (1958).

FOR THE 2007 EDITION

STRP is looking for projects, installations, or proposals that concern themselves with interactive art, robotics and/or Live Cinema (in the live cinema category we are looking for projects that rely on both performance and technology in order to become an audio-visual whole). All of the above in a context in which the artistic side is furthered by technology. This year we will also be paying special attention to projects, which involve light in their concept, composition, and/or execution.

create a vibrant art-community worldwide.

For State of the image, a selection of international media-artists

* Up2DATE

From 18th August until 17th September Stichting Idee-fixe organizes the exhibition UP2DATE. An exhibition in which a personal view is given on the current video- and other media art in Western-Europa. Since more than fifteen years Stichting Idee-fixe is a platform for visionary art, with an active role of the public. In its projects, always full of imagination, surprise lies just around the corner.

In this exhibition the artists work with the power of the moving image. Confronting worlds that stimulate all senses are created with modern video and computer techniques. Fourteen works/installations can be seen in which video or sound play the lead. Those media are used in many different ways and can be seen as a tool of the mind of the artist. The computer helps to execute his or her idea.

The international artists come from different countries, some of them are working already for many years. Furthermore we have selected young talents who recently graduated from several Dutch art schools. Those youngsters, six in total, get a chance to introduce themselves to a bigger audience and to exhibit together with more experienced artists.

In this way UP2DATE wants to surprise you with rotating video images, interactive sound installations and video stories from different angles.

TRANSMIT by D-Fuse @ MU

Live VJ & soundperformance by D-Fuse & guests at De Effenaar on Septembre 8 form 20.30 till 04.00 hours. Opening of Exhibition D-Fuse at MU from September 9 till October 8, at 20.00 hours

D-Fuse is a London-based collective of international (sound)artists, designers and architects working in a broad range of media. Their work varies from live VJ- performances to multimedia installations and from filmprojects to printed matter. This fall their book VJ Culture and Audiovisual Art, one of the first international overviews of this artscene will be published by Laurence King in Londen.
Central to their first international solo-exhibition @ MU will be the installation SmallGlobal, in which the viewer sees the world as a huge living organism.

Projected onto four big screens SmallGlobal shows us a datadriven impression of globalistic processes like the explosive growth of mobilephones and McDonalds and the slow but also constant deterioration of rainforrest and the gorillacommunity in Congo.

Besides this installation D-Fuse has also build a new light and soundwork Phosphorescense specially for MU that will be a 3 dimensional translation of their spatial vj shows. Other aspects will be large prints of their newest project Undercurrent, about the massive socio-economic changes in rivercities in both modern

China and post-industrial Britain, and a multiplescreening of their 2004 dvd D-Tonate and visuals for Beck’s Guero tour.

The exhibition will be launched with a live performance in which D-Fuse will stage their Light Turned Down performance with soundartist Scanner and a line-up of other international guests, amongst whom are Burnt Friedman, Jaki Liebezeit, Visualkitchen VJ Oxygen and ACTOP that also feature in their VJ-book.
